Fans Demand Custody of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the actress are urging that a man who jumped a barrier and touched the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though legal records revealed that he was set to be present on the next day. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed contains clips of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is clearly a punishable act," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Well-being
Many supporters criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some demanded online networks to block Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande seemed surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of attendees had congregated in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including a number who had waited for as long as many hours before it started.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a two-film interpretation of the popular theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two contrasting characters.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen Academy Award nods, winning two for best costume and production design.
