Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
