Vince Zampella, who helped create the globally famous first-person shooter Call of Duty, has passed away in a traffic collision in California aged 55.

Zampella's death was verified by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, a game studio he co-founded.

The renowned game designer passed away following his vehicle was involved in a crash and was engulfed in flames on a freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday, according to.

"We are facing a devastating loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, his loved ones, and the countless individuals inspired by his creative vision," an official with Electronic Arts stated.
