The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Renowned for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.
He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."
This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
After a career spanning half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
